Yonason Perry was born in Tucson, Arizona, and raised by his Ashkenazi mother and non-Jewish Black father. He grew up in a secular home environment with minimal interaction with the Jewish community. When Yonason turned 19, he was introduced to Chabad, which brought him to accept a life of Torah observance. After growing closer to Judaism, Yonason spent several years in Morristown, New Jersey, pursuing Torah studies at the Lubavitch Yeshiva there. While studying in Morristown, Yonason traveled to different yeshivas to educate students on the detriment of internal racism within the Orthodox Jewish community. Today, Yonason lives in Los Angeles and is a Rabbi.
